Position Summary
The Director of Contract Surety will lead strategic and operational initiatives across the Contract Surety business line. This role is responsible for driving underwriting excellence, managing regional performance, and fostering strong relationships with agents, brokers, and internal stakeholders. The ideal candidate will bring deep industry knowledge, leadership experience, and a passion for developing talent and expanding market share.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team of underwriters across multiple regions, ensuring consistent underwriting standards and performance.
- Develop and execute strategic plans to grow the Contract Surety portfolio, including new business development and retention strategies.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to align underwriting practices with corporate goals and risk appetite.
- Maintain and enhance relationships with key agents and brokers, serving as a senior point of contact for complex or high-value accounts.
- Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and regulatory developments to inform business strategy.
- Oversee training, mentoring, and professional development of underwriting staff.
- Ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
- Represent our client at industry events, trade associations, and client meetings.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree or professional designation (e.g., AFSB) preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in surety underwriting, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Proven track record of managing teams and driving profitable growth.
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Ability to travel as needed to support regional offices and client engagements.
