Qualifications
- Over a decade of progressive accounting experience, including time at a Big 4 or top-tier advisory firm and within the insurance sector.
- Strong technical expertise in life insurance, annuities, reinsurance (e.g., funds withheld, modco), and investment accounting (e.g., structured products, mortgage loans, private placements).
- Demonstrated success in implementing complex accounting standards from policy development to operational rollout.
- In-depth knowledge of U.S. GAAP and NAIC statutory accounting.
- Skilled in project management and leading cross-functional initiatives.
- Adept at translating complex accounting concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
- Proficient in ERP systems (Oracle, SAP), insurance subledgers, and reporting tools (Workiva, Clearwater, Power BI).
Responsibilities
- Analyze and apply U.S. GAAP and statutory guidance, with emphasis on LDTI, reinsurance, investment accounting, and consolidation/VIEs.
- Maintain the company's accounting policy manual and technical documentation.
- Prepare technical memos and lead resolution of complex or unique transactions.
- Collaborate with Legal, Actuarial, Investments, and Risk teams to ensure well-rounded policy decisions.
- Convert technical conclusions into actionable playbooks, controls, journal entries, and close calendar tasks.
- Lead adoption of new accounting standards and ensure cross-functional preparedness (e.g., LDTI, VIEs, reinsurance structures).
- Work closely with accounting operations to integrate policies into close and reporting processes
