About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Marketing Underwriter to join its growing team in Kansas. This role is ideal for a relationship‑driven insurance professional with deep underwriting expertise, strong broker partnerships, and a passion for delivering exceptional workers' compensation solutions. The Senior Marketing Underwriter will play a critical role in expanding our client's presence in the Kansas market by evaluating risks, driving profitable growth, and building long‑standing distribution relationships.

Key Responsibilities

Underwriting & Risk Evaluation

  • Evaluate and underwrite new and renewal workers' compensation business within assigned authority.
  • Analyze risk characteristics, loss history, financials, and operational exposures to determine appropriate classifications, pricing, and terms.
  • Maintain a profitable book by balancing risk selection, pricing accuracy, and portfolio strategy.
  • Prepare detailed underwriting documentation, referrals, and recommendations for complex accounts.

Agency & Broker Management

  • Develop and strengthen relationships with appointed agencies, brokers, and distribution partners across Kansas.
  • Identify and onboard high‑potential agencies to support market growth.
  • Serve as a consultative resource for distribution partners, providing training, market insights, and expertise on workers' compensation coverage.

Business Development & Territory Growth

  • Drive new business production while maintaining strong renewal retention.
  • Collaborate with internal teams-including claims, loss prevention, and policy services-to deliver a seamless customer experience.
  • Represent our client at industry conferences, agency visits, and regional events.
  • Monitor local market trends, competitor activity, and emerging risks to help inform territory strategies.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with internal departments to support account servicing and ensure underwriting integrity.
  • Provide feedback that helps shape product enhancements, underwriting guidelines, and market positioning.

Qualifications

Required

  • 5-7+ years of underwriting experience in workers' compensation or commercial P&C with a demonstrated record of profitable portfolio management.
  • Strong knowledge of underwriting principles, risk assessment, and workers' compensation regulations.
  • Proven experience managing agency relationships and driving territory growth.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently while balancing multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Risk Management, Insurance, or related field.
  • Professional designations such as CPCU, AU, ARM, or CIC.
  • Experience working in or supporting the Kansas workers' compensation market.
