Actuarial Manager - Pricing
A growing specialty insurance platform is looking to add a Actuarial Manager to support and lead pricing strategy across multiple commercial product lines. This is a high visibility role for someone who enjoys balancing hands on analytical work with team leadership and cross functional collaboration.
This position sits within a centralized pricing group and partners closely with underwriting, product, actuarial, and technology teams. The focus is on building scalable pricing capabilities while supporting profitable growth across small commercial and adjacent segments.
What You'll Do
Lead pricing initiatives across several commercial lines, with an initial emphasis on small commercial products and future exposure to additional segments as the portfolio evolves.
Own the development and execution of pricing strategies, including rate indications, competitive reviews, factor analysis, impact assessments, and regulatory documentation.
Oversee the rate filing life-cycle from analysis through implementation, working closely with internal partners to update rating tools, support testing, and monitor post implementation performance.
Manage and mentor a small team of pricing analysts, providing direction on priorities, timelines, and deliverables while ensuring consistent communication and execution.
Serve as the primary pricing point of contact for assigned products, supporting new initiatives, enhancements, and broader strategic changes.
Contribute directly to analysis and decision making while spending a significant portion of time coordinating work, prioritizing requests, and guiding the team through competing demands.
Build and improve data processes, including querying and validating data, identifying inconsistencies, and ensuring pricing inputs are reliable and well understood.
Communicate findings and recommendations clearly to a range of stakeholders, translating technical work into actionable insights.
What We're Looking For
Five or more years of actuarial or pricing experience, ideally within commercial insurance or closely related lines.
ACAS or FCAS designation preferred.
Experience leading projects and influencing outcomes. Prior people management experience is helpful but not required. This role is well suited for someone who has owned work-streams, coordinated deliverables, and guided others without necessarily having formal direct reports.
Strong technical foundation, including experience with rate filings and pricing methodologies.
Comfort working with data and tools such as SQL, VBA, R, or similar languages.
A clear communicator who can set expectations, push back when needed, and keep work moving forward.
Someone who enjoys both strategy and execution and can flex between contributing directly and leading through others.
Work Environment and Structure
This role is tied to a regional office location but offers flexibility. The team operates in a hybrid model, with occasional in person collaboration as needed. Day to day work is largely autonomous, and outcomes matter more than where the work is done.
The role reports to senior pricing leadership and plays a meaningful part in shaping how pricing is done across the organization.
Why This Role
This is an opportunity to step into a leadership role where your work will be visible and impactful. The team values practical decision making, clear communication, and thoughtful execution. If you enjoy building structure, leading through influence, and helping teams deliver high quality work, this role offers room to grow and make a real mark.
