Investments Senior Associate - Alternatives
A leading global insurance and investment platform is seeking an Investments Senior Associate to support its Alternatives and Non-Core portfolios. This role partners closely with senior investment leadership and plays a key role in portfolio oversight, manager evaluation, financial modeling, and investment decision-making.
The Alternatives and Non-Core portfolios span over 30 external managers across private equity, private credit, real estate, infrastructure, hedge funds, high yield, public equity, and CLO equity-representing approximately 30% of a ~$20B investable asset base and a significant contributor to overall returns.
Key Responsibilities
Manager & Investment Monitoring
- Support relationships with external investment managers
- Produce quarterly investment updates and performance reviews
- Analyze performance (absolute and relative) vs. benchmarks, plan, and peer groups
- Maintain manager scorecards using qualitative and quantitative insights
- Conduct peer group analysis for current and prospective managers
- Ensure accuracy of investment and manager data across internal and third-party systems
Asset Modeling & Financial Planning
- Develop and maintain models for NAV, cash flows, returns, and projections
- Forecast gain/loss and performance expectations
- Support development and maintenance of financial plans for Alternatives portfolios
Portfolio Management & Reporting
- Assist with execution and onboarding of new investments and managers
- Coordinate across internal teams (Risk, Legal, Accounting, Operations, IT) and external partners
- Monitor portfolio compliance with investment guidelines and constraints
- Prepare reporting for Investment Committee, CIO, and Board-level stakeholders
Manager Due Diligence
- Build and maintain pipeline of investment opportunities
- Support RFP processes and full-cycle due diligence
- Evaluate structures, tax considerations, and regulatory capital impacts
- Draft investment memos and recommendations
Ad Hoc Projects
- Deliver analysis and strategic projects to support investment decision-making
Qualifications & Experience
- 4-6+ years of experience in institutional investing, with a focus on alternative investments
- Insurance investment experience (general account, CIO office, or asset manager) strongly preferred
- Experience sourcing, evaluating, and monitoring external managers
- Strong understanding of:
- Capital markets and asset allocation
- Alternative asset classes (private equity, real estate, infrastructure, hedge funds, credit, CLOs, etc.)
Technical Skills
- Advanced financial modeling, including:
- NAV and cash flow modeling
- LBO and return projections
- Strong knowledge of performance metrics:
- TVPI, DPI, IRR, TWR, exposure, unfunded commitments
- Experience with performance attribution and benchmark construction
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's preferred
- Progress toward CFA and/or CAIA is a plus
