An international financial services business is seeking a Head of Accounting to oversee its Belgian accounting operations and lead a team responsible for financial control, statutory reporting, and accounting governance.
Reporting directly to the Finance Director, this role sits within the finance leadership team and plays a critical part in ensuring robust financial processes, regulatory compliance, and high-quality financial reporting across the organisation. The position offers significant exposure to senior management and the opportunity to contribute to strategic finance initiatives, systems improvements, and business growth.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of accounting and reporting professionals
- Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Ensure compliance with IFRS and Belgian GAAP requirements
- Manage statutory accounts, regulatory filings, and tax reporting obligations
- Review balance sheet reconciliations and ensure strong control over financial processes
- Partner closely with FP&A, Treasury, Risk, and Compliance teams on cross-functional initiatives
- Coordinate external audits and act as the primary contact for auditors and regulators
- Monitor and enhance internal controls, accounting policies, and governance frameworks
- Support finance transformation projects, including process automation and systems optimisation
- Provide financial insight and recommendations to senior leadership on accounting and control matters
Candidate Profile
Required Experience
- Strong background in financial accounting and statutory reporting
- Proven experience leading and developing accounting teams
- Extensive knowledge of IFRS and local Belgian accounting requirements
- Experience managing audit processes and regulatory reporting obligations
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
- Ability to operate effectively within a complex, multi-entity environment
- Fluent English language skills
Preferred Experience
- Big Four audit or advisory background
- Experience within financial services, asset management, leasing, lending, or insurance environments
- Exposure to multinational or cross-border finance structures
- Experience leading accounting process improvement or finance transformation initiatives
- Knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements in a regulated industry
- French and/or Dutch language skills would be advantageous
- Experience working with ERP systems and finance automation tools
