VP, SEC Reporting & Accounting

About the Company
My client is a high‑growth insurance group preparing for its next phase of expansion and continued scaling across multiple entities. The company is seeking a technically strong, execution‑focused accounting professional to lead SEC reporting, oversee technical accounting matters, and support the transformation of finance operations as the organization enters the public‑company environment.

This is a unique opportunity for a hands‑on subject matter expert who thrives in the details, understands the nuances of property & casualty insurance accounting, and wants to play a pivotal role in building a first‑class reporting infrastructure.

Position Overview

The Vice President, SEC Reporting & Technical Accounting will take ownership of all SEC reporting processes pre‑ and post‑IPO, including 10‑K/10‑Q preparation, technical evaluations, and coordination across internal and external stakeholders. This individual will also support the IPO readiness initiative, implement SOX frameworks, and guide the organization through new accounting pronouncements and financial reporting requirements for regulated insurance businesses.

This role requires someone who is highly technical, detail‑oriented, and motivated to build, refine, and execute-not just supervise from a high level. The ideal candidate has deep experience in SEC filings combined with a strong background in P&C insurance accounting.

Key Responsibilities

SEC Reporting & IPO Readiness

  • Lead preparation of all SEC reporting deliverables, including 10‑K, 10‑Q, 8‑K, and related disclosures
  • Drive the implementation of a repeatable SEC reporting process in advance of the IPO
  • Act as a core contributor to the overall IPO project, partnering with legal, finance, underwriters, auditors, and other stakeholders
  • Own post‑IPO reporting requirements, including quarterly filing cycles and annual reporting processes

Technical Accounting & Standards

  • Evaluate and implement new accounting pronouncements, ensuring compliance and proper documentation
  • Provide technical guidance on complex accounting matters specific to P&C insurance
  • Prepare and review required footnotes, including insurance‑specific disclosures such as loss reserves, premium accounting, reinsurance, and statutory-to-GAAP reconciliations
  • Maintain the company's accounting policies and ensure alignment with GAAP, statutory, and regulatory frameworks

SOX Implementation & Controls

  • Support the design and implementation of SOX controls prior to IPO
  • Maintain and enhance SOX documentation and control testing post‑IPO
  • Identify control gaps, propose solutions, and enhance reporting accuracy and governance

Strategic Support & Future Team Leadership

  • Provide hands‑on support across multiple workstreams during the IPO process
  • Contribute to operational improvements as the company expands its footprint
  • Potential to grow and lead a small SEC/technical accounting team in the future (team size TBD)

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required; CPA strongly preferred
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience with a significant focus on SEC reporting
  • Direct experience preparing or reviewing 10‑K and 10‑Q filings is required
  • Strong understanding of P&C insurance accounting-must know industry‑specific disclosures and reporting expectations
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply new accounting standards
  • Experience supporting IPO readiness, public‑company reporting, or major transaction events a plus
  • Hands‑on mindset-must be detail‑driven and comfortable working deep in the technical aspects of accounting
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work cross‑functionally with non‑accounting stakeholders
  • Organized, deadline‑oriented, and capable of managing multiple concurrent priorities

What This Role Offers

  • A high‑impact position at a fast‑growing insurance company entering a transformational stage
  • Meaningful ownership of SEC reporting and technical accounting from day one
  • Opportunity to shape and build reporting processes ahead of the IPO
  • Career path to future leadership as the team grows
  • Competitive compensation package, bonus potential, and comprehensive benefits
