Aviation Property Program Manager - Executive Level
Our client is a successful Aviation focused MGA that has solidified its place in the Aviation work comp, general liability, hull & liability, and commercial auto markets.
They are seeking an experienced Aviation Property Underwriting Program Manager to lead the end-to-end creation, development, and execution of their new Aviation Property product. This is a rare opportunity to build a program from the ground up-shaping underwriting strategy, product design, risk appetite, and long-term operational frameworks for a critical new business line.
The ideal candidate has deep technical underwriting experience across aviation-related property exposures, including hangars, airports, aviation facilities, specialized equipment, ground support, and related commercial auto. You will serve as both strategist and practitioner, guiding underwriting standards while actively contributing to portfolio growth.
Key Responsibilities
Program Development & Leadership
- Lead the development of the Aviation Property product suite, including coverage design, pricing frameworks, risk appetite, underwriting guidelines, and workflows.
- Build and refine underwriting governance, best practices, and operational processes for the new program.
- Conduct competitive market analysis to inform product differentiation and market positioning.
- Partner with actuarial, claims, operations, product, and distribution teams to ensure the product is scalable, profitable, and aligned with corporate strategy.
Underwriting & Portfolio Management
- Underwrite complex aviation property risks, including:
- Hangars and aviation facilities
- General aviation airports and municipal airports
- Aviation equipment and ground support assets
- Aviation‑related commercial auto exposures (fuel trucks, tugs, shuttles, maintenance vehicles, etc.)
- Evaluate submissions, analyze exposures, assess loss potential, and develop pricing strategies informed by underwriting judgment and data-driven insights.
- Manage portfolio performance, monitoring profitability, loss trends, retention, and growth.
- Ensure compliance with internal underwriting authority, regulatory requirements, and reinsurance structures.
Broker & Market Engagement
- Build strong relationships with aviation brokers, MGAs, agents, and industry partners to support business development.
- Represent the organization at aviation and insurance industry events, conferences, and advisory groups.
- Communicate product value proposition and underwriting appetite clearly to external partners.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Act as the subject matter expert for Aviation Property across the organization.
- Mentor underwriters as the team expands; support recruitment and training efforts.
- Collaborate cross‑functionally to optimize digital tools, underwriting platforms, forms, and rating models.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of underwriting experience, with significant focus on aviation property and related risks.
- Strong working knowledge of aviation operations, airport structures, hangar design/occupancy, maintenance risks, and aviation‑specific equipment.
- Experience underwriting commercial auto related to aviation operations preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to build or scale a specialty insurance product or program.
- Proven track record of profitable underwriting and portfolio management.
- Strong analytical skills, business acumen, and comfort working with actuarial models and exposure data.
- Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills with brokers and internal teams.
- Ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial and fast‑growing environment.
