Senior Field Underwriter
We're working with a leading insurance carrier that's seeking a Senior Field Underwriter with deep expertise in Casualty Lines to join their high-performing underwriting team. This is a market-facing role focused on profitable growth, strategic broker engagement, and underwriting complex casualty risks across a diverse portfolio.
Key Responsibilities:
Underwriting & Risk Selection
- Assess, price, and structure complex casualty risks including General Liability, Auto Liability, Workers' Compensation, Excess/Umbrella, and Specialty Casualty.
- Apply sound judgment and underwriting discipline in line with company guidelines and appetite.
- Negotiate coverage terms and conditions with brokers and clients.
Market Engagement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, agents, and insureds.
- Represent the carrier in client meetings, industry events, and underwriting presentations.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities in collaboration with distribution partners.
Portfolio Oversight
- Manage a profitable book of business, monitoring performance metrics and loss trends.
- Provide insights to internal teams on market conditions and pricing strategies.
- Collaborate with actuarial and product teams to refine underwriting approaches.
Leadership & Mentorship
- Serve as a technical resource and mentor to junior underwriters.
- Contribute to underwriting best practices and thought leadership within the casualty segment.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
- Experience: 7-10+ years of casualty underwriting experience, ideally in a field or market-facing role.
- Expertise: Strong technical knowledge of casualty lines and coverage forms.
- Skills: Excellent negotiation, analytical, and communication skills.
- Certifications: Bachelor's degree required; CPCU, ARM, or other designations preferred.
- Travel: Willingness to travel for broker/client meetings and industry events.
