About the Role
A mission‑driven organization in the education and risk‑management space is seeking a Director of Finance to lead its financial planning and analysis function, oversee treasury‑related activities, and support strategic, enterprise‑wide decision‑making. This role is central to shaping financial strategy, driving forecasting excellence, and ensuring strong investment and cash‑management practices.
The Director of Finance will also serve as a critical partner to senior leadership and act as a backup to the Controller for core accounting operations to ensure continuity of financial reporting and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Planning & Analysis (Primary Focus)
- Lead the development and management of the annual budget and long‑term financial plan.
- Build and deliver ongoing financial forecasts, scenario models, ROI analyses, and ad‑hoc reporting to support strategic and operational initiatives.
- Support treasury and investment activities, including performance monitoring and reporting.
- Prepare financial dashboards and senior leadership/Board‑level presentations.
- Partner with business leaders to identify opportunities for efficiency, growth, and improved performance.
- Coordinate leadership operational reviews and collaborate on insurance‑related purchasing activities.
- Develop and streamline processes, policies, and systems in partnership with the Senior Budget Analyst.
Accounting & Treasury (Secondary / Backup Duties)
- Serve as a backup to the Controller for month‑end close and financial reporting.
- Assist in creating internal financial statements, regulatory filings, and audit support.
- Provide oversight ensuring continuity in cash management and treasury operations.
People Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and develop a Senior Budget Analyst and contribute to the development of broader finance team capabilities.
- Establish clear objectives, KPIs, and performance expectations.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and operational excellence.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field; MBA or CPA preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in FP&A, financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, or accounting.
- Strong expertise in financial modeling, ROI analysis, and performance measurement.
- Experience overseeing or supporting investment management functions.
- Proven supervisory experience with the ability to build and develop high‑performing teams.
- Advanced skills in Excel, financial systems, and Microsoft Office suite.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and business partnering skills.
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic, evolving, mission‑oriented environment.
