Summary
The Reinsurance Manager leads a team responsible for the accounting, analysis, and reporting of reinsurance transactions. This role requires deep expertise in reinsurance operations, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership, technical accounting knowledge, and a proactive approach to process improvement and cross-functional collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the end-to-end reinsurance accounting process, including premium and loss recording, billing, cash settlements, and financial reporting.
- Manage and mentor a team of reinsurance specialists, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback.
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of GAAP, Statutory, and management reports, including disclosures, Schedule F, and other regulatory filings.
- Serve as the primary liaison with internal departments, external auditors, reinsurers, and regulatory bodies on reinsurance matters.
- Lead the implementation of process improvements and system enhancements to increase efficiency and accuracy in reinsurance operations.
- Monitor and interpret changes in accounting standards and regulatory requirements, ensuring compliance and timely communication of impacts.
- Coordinate audit engagements and support internal and external audit requests related to reinsurance.
- Contribute to strategic planning and decision-making by providing insights and analysis on reinsurance structures and financial impacts.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or MBA strongly preferred.
- Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in reinsurance accounting, including leadership or supervisory responsibilities.
- In-depth knowledge of GAAP and Statutory accounting principles, with a strong understanding of reinsurance structures and transactions.
- Proven ability to manage complex projects and lead cross-functional initiatives.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial systems; experience with CODA and annual statement software is a plus.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Compensation
The base salary range for this position is estimated to be between $130,000 and $165,000, depending on location, experience, and qualifications. A comprehensive benefits package is also offered.
