Macro Research Analyst

We are seeking a highly motivated and intellectually curious Macro Research Analyst to join a global investment research team, based in Shanghai. This role will focus on delivering deep, data-driven insights into China's macroeconomic landscape and its implications for global markets. The successful candidate will work closely with portfolio managers, strategists, and data scientists to support both discretionary investment strategies across asset classes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct in-depth macroeconomic research on China, including growth, inflation, monetary and fiscal policy, trade, credit, and regulatory developments.
  • Monitor and interpret high-frequency economic indicators, policy announcements, and geopolitical events to assess their market impact.
  • Develop and maintain macro models and dashboards to forecast key economic variables and scenario outcomes.
  • Collaborate with global macro teams to contextualize China's developments within broader global macro trends.
  • Translate macro views into actionable investment insights across equities, fixed income, FX, and commodities.
  • Contribute to the firm's house view and participate in regular investment meetings and strategy discussions.
  • Produce high-quality written research and presentations for internal stakeholders and external clients.
  • Engage with policymakers, academics, and industry experts to enhance the firm's macro understanding and network.

Requirements:

  • 3-7 years of experience in macroeconomic research, strategy, or policy analysis, ideally within an asset manager, investment bank, or central bank.
  • Deep understanding of China's economic structure, policy framework, and financial system.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills; experience with macro modeling, time series analysis, and scenario forecasting.
  • Proficiency in Mandarin and English, with the ability to interpret Chinese-language data sources, policy documents, and media.
  • Advanced degree in economics, finance, public policy, or a related field; PhD or Master's preferred.
  • Familiarity with data tools such as Bloomberg, Wind, CEIC, and programming languages like Python, R, or MATLAB is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to distill complex macro themes into clear, actionable insights.
  • Self-starter with a global mindset, strong attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
