Position Overview:

Our client, an A+ rated AM Best carrier and recipient of a 5‑Star Claims Carrier Award, is seeking to hire an AVP of Excess Casualty Claims for a newly created leadership role. This position will oversee a team of four adjusters: two managing unsupported general liability excess claims and two specializing in both excess and primary retail energy claims. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise across a broad range of excess casualty matters, including significant experience with energy‑related claims.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take full responsibility for leading the Claims organization, with a focus on growing talent, building a sustainable leadership pipeline, and aligning people development efforts with broader company goals.
  • Promote a workplace environment that values open communication and strong teamwork, while steering the overall direction of claims strategies, initiatives, performance measures, and program execution for the Middle Market Excess Claims team as well as the E&S and Retail Energy Claims groups.
  • Work in close partnership with Underwriting, Risk Management, Actuarial, and other internal stakeholders to facilitate ongoing exchange of insights related to market activity, regulatory shifts, portfolio performance, and emerging loss patterns. Maintain clear and consistent communication with Underwriters, brokers, and reinsurers regarding important claim developments.
  • Direct performance management for the team and implement approaches that encourage ongoing employee development, ensuring training needs are continuously evaluated and addressed to enhance overall skill and expertise.
  • Oversee financial discipline within the Claims function, including management of both allocated and unallocated expenses, and play a key role in shaping annual operational targets, priorities, and budget planning.
  • Ensure claim reserving is performed accurately and promptly, and take part in mediations, arbitrations, depositions, and trials when required. Carry out additional assignments and contribute to special projects as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Insurance, or related field.
  • 5+ years experience of people management.
  • Expertise in excess energy claims
  • Strong analytic and communication skills.
