About the Role
A leading player in the employee benefits and risk solutions space is seeking a Senior Underwriter with deep expertise in medical stop-loss. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, analytical environment and is ready to take ownership of complex underwriting decisions while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate, price, and manage a portfolio of medical stop-loss cases, including both new business and renewals.
- Analyze risk profiles, claims data, and market trends to develop competitive and profitable underwriting strategies.
- Collaborate with actuarial, sales, and account management teams to deliver tailored solutions for clients.
- Maintain underwriting discipline and ensure compliance with internal guidelines and regulatory requirements.
- Mentor junior underwriters and contribute to process improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- 6-10 years of underwriting experience, with a strong focus on stop-loss or related health risk products.
- Proven ability to assess complex risk scenarios and make sound, data-driven decisions.
- Strong understanding of claims analytics, underwriting tools, and market dynamics.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
Nice to Have
- Experience with self-funded employer groups or TPAs.
- Exposure to underwriting automation tools or predictive modeling.
- Industry certifications (e.g., LOMA, HIAA) are a plus.
