Location: Hybrid - San Antonio, TX (2 days in person, 3 days remote)

A growing commercial insurance provider is seeking a dynamic Team Lead - Underwriting Operations to oversee a team of underwriters and manage the daily operations of an underwriting unit. This role blends leadership, risk evaluation, and process optimization in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Development

  • Supervise and mentor a team of underwriters, fostering professional growth and performance excellence.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, provide coaching, and support training initiatives.
  • Lead staffing efforts including interviewing, hiring, and onboarding.

Underwriting Oversight

  • Ensure underwriting decisions align with internal authority levels and company guidelines.
  • Review referrals, endorsements, cancellations, renewals, and other policy transactions.
  • Promote sound risk assessment practices to support underwriting quality and profitability.

Operational Efficiency

  • Monitor workflows and service levels to ensure timely and accurate processing.
  • Identify and recommend improvements to underwriting procedures and tools.
  • Collaborate with leadership to meet production targets and strategic goals.
  • Support system enhancements, special projects, and new business initiatives.

Compliance & Quality Assurance

  • Ensure adherence to applicable insurance regulations and internal compliance standards.
  • Address regulatory inquiries and resolve escalated customer concerns.
  • Champion a culture of accountability, quality, and customer-centric service.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with internal teams to align underwriting operations with broader business objectives.
  • Adapt to evolving guidelines, technologies, and market strategies.

Qualifications

Required Skills & Knowledge

  • Proven leadership and team management experience.
  • Strong background in Property & Casualty underwriting and risk analysis.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Self-motivated and collaborative mindset.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum 2 years of Property & Casualty underwriting experience.
  • Prior experience in a leadership or mentoring role is preferred.
