Position Summary
A confidential, high-growth real estate investment and lending firm is seeking a seasoned executive to serve as Managing Director, Head of Capital Markets. This senior leader will be responsible for executing the firm's strategic vision through balance sheet optimization, risk mitigation, cost of capital reduction, and revenue maximization. The role will lead capital markets strategy, product development, and capitalization planning to support the firm's lending and investment objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Capital Strategy & Execution
- Oversee warehouse facilities and loan leverage to maintain a 2:1 debt-to-equity ratio.
- Manage the firm's balance sheet and capital structure to ensure optimal leverage and risk-adjusted returns.
- Develop and implement strategies to minimize WACC and maximize gross yield on loan sales.
- Lead the creation of new balance sheet solutions to support housing community developers and operators.
Lender & Investor Relations
- Build and maintain strong relationships with lenders, banks, and capital providers.
- Close a $250MM+ ground-up construction and land facility within the first 120 days.
- Establish at least three new lender relationships with closed transactions.
- Lead the development and management of the firm's lender finance platform and future banking initiatives.
Deal Structuring & Execution
- Direct project and transaction finance for firm-owned deals.
- Analyze asset financials, prepare financial models, and submit lender packages.
- Negotiate favorable debt terms, covenants, and conditions.
- Manage lender due diligence, checklist calls, and the full loan closing process.
Committee Participation & Reporting
- Serve as an active member of the Investment and Credit Committees.
- Provide exit financing analysis and ensure leverage eligibility in credit decisions.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date internal systems and balance sheet trackers.
- Deliver timely reporting, including WACC metrics and executive summaries.
Platform & Program Development
- Lead the expansion of the firm's loan sale and securitization platform.
- Manage the "Loan Club" program and foster community bank partnerships.
- Develop and execute a comprehensive plan for DUS (Delegated Underwriting and Servicing) lending.
- Oversee the launch of the firm's lender finance program under its banking initiative.
Qualifications
Required
- Extensive experience in direct multifamily finance, including ground-up development.
- Proven track record in lender finance, including warehouse facilities and loan sales.
Preferred
- Background in private credit lending and originations.
- Experience in private fund management.
- Minimum of 5 years in banking.
- Strong credit underwriting and portfolio management skills.
- Familiarity with loan servicing and securitization processes.
