Controller
A rapidly growing, technology-enabled insurance organization is looking for a high-impact Controller to join their finance leadership team. This is a critical role overseeing accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls in a dynamic, scaling environment.
Position Overview
The Controller will lead all aspects of the accounting function, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting while driving process improvements and supporting strategic growth initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, and close process
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close with a focus on accuracy and timeliness
- Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with GAAP
- Establish, maintain, and enhance internal controls and accounting policies
- Partner with executive leadership on financial strategy, forecasting, and business insights
- Manage audits, including coordination with external auditors and regulatory bodies
- Drive system improvements, automation, and scalability of financial processes
- Build and mentor a high-performing accounting team
- Support M&A activity, integrations, and technical accounting matters
Qualifications
- CPA required
- Big 4 public accounting experience strongly preferred
- 8-12+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including leadership roles
- Prior experience as a Controller or in a senior accounting leadership role
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting requirements
- Experience within insurance, insurtech, or financial services highly preferred
- Proven track record of improving processes in high-growth or PE/VC-backed environments
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- Experience with modern ERP systems and financial tools
