Actuarial Analyst - Reserving
Actuarial Analyst, Reserving (P&C)
Northeast only - Remote
A specialty insurance organization is looking to add an actuarial analyst to its US reserving team. This role is best suited for someone who already has hands‑on P&C reserving experience and has been through multiple quarters.
The position supports the reserving function across US lines of business and is closely tied to quarterly close, financial reporting, and audit support. This is not a training or rotational seat - the team is looking for someone who can step in and contribute meaningfully during quarter‑end.
What you'll be working on
- Supporting quarterly reserve reviews across US P&C lines
- Analyzing loss development patterns, trends, and actual vs. expected emergence
- Preparing data and materials for external actuarial consultants and partnering with them throughout the reserving process
- Assisting with actuarial support for financial statement filings and the financial close
- Supporting internal controls and interacting with internal and external auditors
- Creating standard and ad‑hoc reports for management
- Assisting with the integration of newly acquired portfolios into the reserving process
- Contributing ideas to improve reserving processes, controls, and reporting
What they're looking for
- 1-3 years of actuarial experience in P&C with direct reserving exposure
- 2-4 actuarial exams completed
- Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, or a related field
- Strong Excel skills and experience working with data (SQL required; VBA a plus)
- Prior experience using reserving software (or similar tools) preferred
- Comfortable preparing written technical documentation and supporting audit and reporting requirements
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, especially during quarter‑end
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to explain findings clearly to both actuarial and non‑actuarial stakeholders
This role offers strong exposure to reserving, financial reporting, and portfolio complexity, and is ideal for someone who wants to continue building depth in reserving rather than pivoting into pricing or analytics.
