Vice President, Accounting & Financial Reporting Advisory
Job Overview
A leading global financial advisory firm is seeking a Vice President to join its growing Transaction Advisory Services, Accounting & Financial Reporting practice in Chicago.
The Accounting & Financial Reporting Advisory team works closely with private equity sponsors, corporate management teams, lenders, and other stakeholders on both transaction-driven and ongoing accounting and financial reporting matters.
The team advises clients across areas including:
- Buyer and seller financial statements and disclosures
- Sponsor-driven management reporting
- Lender financial reporting and covenant requirements
- Regulatory compliance
- Financial close process design and optimization
- Accounting policy, controllership, and internal controls
- Legal entity and chart-of-accounts rationalization
- Transaction-related accounting and financial reporting
The group works closely with professionals across corporate finance, capital markets, valuation, and restructuring, providing exposure to a broad range of M&A, capital markets, technical accounting, and operational accounting matters.
Key Responsibilities
As a Vice President, you will:
- Execute and manage buy-side, sell-side, capital raise, and restructuring transaction advisory engagements, as well as non-transaction accounting advisory projects
- Serve as the lead professional on select client engagements and accounts
- Work directly with private equity sponsors, C-suite executives, and finance leadership teams
- Lead and participate in client meetings, reviewing financial models, technical accounting analyses, financial reporting disclosures, and close/reporting processes
- Assess and redesign accounting processes, financial close procedures, and internal controls to improve reporting accuracy, timeliness, and audit readiness
- Advise clients on accounting considerations related to finance system changes, including chart-of-accounts design, GL/data mapping, and reporting requirements
- Develop and present high-quality client deliverables and presentations
- Manage and mentor junior team members, including Associates and Analysts
- Collaborate with colleagues across corporate finance, capital markets, valuation, and restructuring
- Support business development, marketing, and broader practice-growth initiatives
- Build relationships with prospective clients and contribute to revenue-generating opportunities
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting
- Active CPA certification or international CPA equivalent required
- Minimum of 6 years of professional experience
- Experience in transaction accounting advisory, accounting and financial reporting advisory, controllership, or corporate accounting operations
- Background within a Big Four accounting firm, national accounting/advisory firm, or corporate accounting/controller function
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience providing accounting and financial reporting advisory or transaction-related services
- Experience improving accounting close processes, internal controls, or financial reporting infrastructure
- Strong understanding of M&A and capital markets concepts
- Current knowledge of U.S. GAAP
- Experience across several of the following areas:
- SEC reporting
- Divestitures and carve-outs
- IPO readiness and execution
- Purchase accounting
- Pro forma financial reporting
- IFRS/U.S. GAAP conversions
- Financial instruments accounting
- Stock-based compensation
- Transaction-related accounting matters
- Familiarity with SOX/internal controls frameworks and remediation of control deficiencies
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple engagements simultaneously
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
- Experience with data analytics tools such as Alteryx or Tableau is a plus
