We are partnering with a well-established regional insurance organization seeking a Staff Accountant to join its corporate accounting team. This role offers direct exposure to statutory reporting, insurance-specific accounting practices, and the financial operations of a growing carrier.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in accounting along with an interest in developing expertise within the insurance space, particularly around statutory (STAT) accounting and regulatory reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the monthly and quarterly close process, including journal entries and account reconciliations
- Prepare and assist with statutory financial reporting in accordance with NAIC guidelines
- Maintain general ledger accounting for insurance-related transactions including premiums, claims, and reserves
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations and investigate variances
- Assist with preparation of schedules and filings for regulatory reporting
- Partner with internal teams including actuarial, underwriting, and operations to ensure accurate financial reporting
- Support process improvements and documentation of accounting procedures
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
- 2+ years of accounting experience, ideally within insurance, public accounting, or financial services
- Exposure to statutory accounting or regulatory reporting is preferred
Technical Skillset
- Understanding of U.S. GAAP with exposure or interest in Statutory (STAT) accounting principles
- Familiarity with insurance accounting concepts such as premiums, loss reserves, and reinsurance
- Experience with reconciliations, workpapers, and financial reporting
- Intermediate Excel skills including pivot tables and lookups
