Senior Software Engineer (SVP)
We are seeking an exceptional senior engineer to play a pivotal role within our FX Technology organisation at a top‑tier global investment bank. This is a hands‑on leadership role for someone who thrives in complex, high‑performance environments and can combine deep engineering expertise with the ability to influence across the organisation.
You will be at the forefront of designing, building, and evolving the platforms that power FX client and sales trading globally, partnering closely with trading desks, quants, and business leadership.
Responsibility
Take end‑to‑end ownership of the design, build, and delivery of core FX trading technology, remaining deeply hands‑on throughout the lifecycle.
Partner with stakeholders across FX trading, sales, quants, and technology to scope, prioritise, and deliver high‑impact solutions.
Shape and evolve system architecture, collaborating closely with end‑users while raising the bar on technical consistency, resilience, and performance.
Drive greenfield platform development, legacy decommissioning, and ongoing modernisation of existing infrastructure.
Uphold engineering standards, internal governance, and best practices, ensuring documentation and controls remain accurate and current.
Champion a culture of engineering excellence, transparency, and continuous improvement across the team.
Act as a trusted senior technical voice, translating complex technical concepts for non‑technical stakeholders and providing clear, actionable guidance
Requirements
7+ years of hands‑on Java engineering experience, with a strong delivery record in production systems within financial services.
Proven experience working in or alongside FX trading technology; solid understanding of FX products, workflows, and market structure.
Deep expertise in low‑latency and performance‑critical systems, including profiling, tuning, and optimisation.
Demonstrated success building greenfield platforms, modernising legacy systems, and navigating complex technology estates.
Broad systems knowledge across software, hardware, and networking, with the ability to diagnose and resolve intricate production issues.
A credible, delivery‑focused engineer who can quickly dive into unfamiliar codebases and provide constructive, impactful feedback.
Outstanding communication and stakeholder‑management skills, with the confidence to operate effectively at senior levels.
