VP C&I Portfolio Manager

A trusted, relationship-driven financial institution based in the Chicago suburbs, specialized in commercial banking solutions with a focus on equipment finance, real estate lending, and treasury management is actively looking for a senior credit professional with strong portfolio management skills to join their growing bank.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead peer reviews of complex credit presentations and provide strategic feedback to ensure underwriting quality and consistency.
  • Mentor and train junior and mid-level credit analysts; oversee onboarding and development programs.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to review and enhance departmental credit policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate weekly Management Credit Committee (MCC) agendas and ensure timely submission of materials.
  • Act as a liaison between credit, commercial banking, and executive leadership to resolve escalated issues and streamline communication.
  • Maintain oversight of credit pipeline reporting and lead weekly pipeline meetings.
  • Manage special projects and strategic initiatives assigned by executive management.
  • Conduct in-depth financial and collateral analysis, including receivables, inventory, equipment, and real estate valuations.
  • Perform advanced credit analysis including cash flow modeling, debt service coverage, leverage, and liquidity assessments.
  • Evaluate complex corporate structures and industry-specific risks; apply sector analysis and macroeconomic insights to credit decisions.
  • Recommend tailored credit solutions for non-standard loan requests and collaborate with internal stakeholders to structure appropriate terms.
  • Oversee third-party vendor relationships related to underwriting (e.g., appraisals, environmental reports, UCC filings).
  • Ensure accurate documentation and reconciliation of loan funding and vendor payments.

Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience in commercial credit underwriting, with a strong background in C&I lending.
  • Proven leadership experience in mentoring and managing credit teams.
  • Deep understanding of financial statement analysis, collateral evaluation, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field; advanced degree or formal credit training preferred.
