Overview:
We are seeking a Power Analyst to support trading, asset optimization, and market analysis across North American power markets. This individual will work closely with traders, originators, and commercial teams to identify opportunities, analyze market fundamentals, and develop actionable insights across power and natural gas markets. The ideal candidate will combine strong analytical skills, market knowledge, and experience with power market modeling tools such as DAYZER.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct fundamental analysis of North American power, natural gas, renewable, and transmission markets to support trading and asset optimization strategies.
- Build, maintain, and analyze power market models using Dayzer or similar software, with a focus on markets such as PJM and ERCOT.
- Evaluate market fundamentals including congestion, transmission constraints, generation outages, renewable output, fuel prices, load forecasts, and locational pricing dynamics.
- Monitor market developments and identify short- and long-term trading opportunities across power, natural gas, FTRs, basis, emissions, capacity, and related products.
- Perform scenario analysis and develop forecasts to assess changing market conditions and their impact on trading strategies.
- Analyze large datasets using Python, SQL, Excel, and other analytical tools to generate market insights and support trade ideas.
- Support asset valuations, hedging strategies, acquisition opportunities, and commercial decision-making processes.
- Communicate market views, model outputs, and analytical findings to traders, risk managers, and senior stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
- 3+ years of experience in power market analytics, trading support, asset optimization, risk, or related commercial roles.
- Experience analyzing North American power markets, preferably PJM, ERCOT, MISO, NYISO, ISO-NE, or CAISO.
- Hands-on experience with DAYZER or comparable power market modeling software.
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills with proficiency in Python, SQL, Excel, or similar tools
- Understanding of power market fundamentals, transmission systems, congestion, generation economics, and risk management concepts.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex analysis to both technical and commercial audiences.
