Fraud & Risk Lead
A cutting-edge fintech startup revolutionizing the credit card and loyalty platform for consumer businesses is looking for an experienced Fraud & Risk Lead. With a number of credit cards launched for major brands, they embed credit card features directly into products, helping businesses create innovative card programs.
As the company expands, you'll design systems and processes that enable speed without compromising integrity. You'll be the go-to person for diagnosing issues, identifying root causes, and implementing lasting solutions.
Responsibilities
- Analyze issuer-level data and third-party signals (e.g., Visa VAA, Mastercard DI, Amex Enhanced Auth) to detect emerging fraud patterns.
- Develop rules, scoring features, and risk models for application, transaction, and payment work flows.
- Prototype machine learning models in Python and deploy them using internal tools.
- Build monitoring dashboards to detect anomalies before they impact customers or finances.
- Forecast fraud losses across vectors like synthetic identity, rewards abuse, transaction fraud, and account takeovers.
- Evaluate new fraud prevention tools (e.g., device fingerprinting, biometric verification) and recommend those with measurable ROI.
- Design fraud mitigation strategies that balance risk reduction with user experience.
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience in fraud or credit risk at card issuers or high-growth fintechs.
- 4+ years of hands-on experience using SQL and Python or R to analyze large, complex financial data sets.
- Proven success in deploying production-level fraud detection models or rule sets that reduce fraud without harming approval rates.
- Experience with data visualization tools to create insightful dashboards.
- Strong background in A/B testing and interpreting results to drive decisions.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills-you can explain complex risk concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- A degree in a quantitative field is a plus, but practical experience and problem-solving ability matter more.
Ideal Candidate Traits
- Experience building scalable fintech products, especially in B2B or platform environments.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to think deeply and act quickly when needed.
- Comfortable engaging with senior stakeholders and institutional partners.
- Curious and interdisciplinary-eager to explore new ideas and ask thoughtful questions.
