I am currently working with a well established commodities trading and logistics business that is looking to appoint an experienced Financial Manager into its Commodities Finance function. The firm trades across physical energy metals and agricultural markets and operates a highly commercial and transaction driven environment.
This is a key hire and would suit someone with a strong background in commodities finance who enjoys working closely with trading and operations teams while maintaining robust financial control.
The role
The Financial Manager will be responsible for overseeing the financial management of physical commodities trading activity and related trade finance structures. The role is hands on and commercially focused, supporting trading activity while ensuring accurate reporting strong controls and effective working capital management.
You will work closely with front office traders operations risk and external financing partners and will play a central role in month end reporting cash flow management and audit processes.
Key responsibilities
- Oversee financial management for physical commodities trading activities
- Manage accounting for trade finance structures including letters of credit prepayments and inventory financing
- Produce monthly management accounts profit and loss analysis and balance sheet reconciliations
- Monitor inventory valuation mark to market exposure and pricing adjustments
- Partner closely with trading operations and risk teams to support deal execution
- Manage cash flow forecasting and working capital optimisation
- Liaise with banks auditors and external advisors on financing and reporting matters
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards internal controls and governance frameworks
- Support year end audit and statutory reporting processes
Experience required
- At least five years experience in a finance or accounting role within commodities trading or commodities finance
- Strong understanding of physical commodities and trade finance structures
- Solid technical accounting knowledge with IFRS exposure preferred
- Experience working in fast paced transaction heavy environments
- Strong Excel and financial analysis skills
- Confident communicator comfortable engaging with traders and senior stakeholders
Desirable experience
- Exposure to energy metals or agricultural commodities
- Experience with structured trade finance products
- Background in a commodities trading house merchant or physical trading business
- Professional accounting qualification such as ACA ACCA or CIMA
