Job Description: Director of Internal Sales

Location: Bethesda, MD (Onsite)

Firm/Company Overview:

A boutique investment management firm with a growing national presence is seeking a Director of Internal Sales to lead and scale its internal distribution function. This is a senior leadership role responsible for building a highperforming internal sales organization that serves as the engine for advisor engagement, pipeline development, and asset growth across intermediary channels.

Role Summary:

The Director of Internal Sales will recruit, develop, and lead a team of internal wholesalers and sales associates supporting national distribution across mutual funds, ETFs, and SMA strategies. The role owns internal sales activity standards, performance metrics, CRM discipline, and ensures tight alignment between internal and external sales coverage.

Key Responsibilities

Internal Sales Leadership & Talent Development

  • Build, lead, and coach a high-performing internal sales team with clear expectations on activity, pipeline, and growth
  • Develop talent and progression pathways while fostering a culture of accountability and commercial excellence

Sales Execution & Performance Oversight

  • Drive proactive outreach programs and ensure disciplined execution across advisor engagement and CRM usage
  • Monitor performance metrics (activity, conversion, flows) to identify growth opportunities

Cross-Functional Partnership & Alignment

  • Align internal and external sales coverage, partnering with leadership on territory strategy and segmentation
  • Collaborate with Marketing, Product, Compliance, and Operations to enhance execution and campaign impact

Scale, Infrastructure & Process Enhancement

  • Standardize messaging and build scalable sales processes, training, and onboarding programs
  • Own CRM quality, reporting, and execution of strategic initiatives (product launches, campaigns)

Qualifications

  • 5-10+ years of experience in asset management sales, internal wholesaling, external wholesaling, or sales leadership
  • Demonstrated experience leading and coaching internal sales teams
  • Deep understanding of intermediary distribution across mutual funds, ETFs, and SMAs
  • Strong knowledge of RIA, independent brokerdealer, wirehouse, and regional brokerdealer channels
  • Proven track record of driving asset growth through disciplined activity management
  • FINRA Series 7 and 63/65 or 66 required; Series 24 preferred

Compensation & Benefits

  • Total Compensation Range: $120,000 - $300,000 (base + incentive)
