Database Platform Engineer

Senior Database Platform Engineer

New York City | 4 Days Onsite

We're partnering with a leading investment management firm that is transforming how database services are delivered through automation, self-service platforms, and modern database engineering practices.

This is not a traditional DBA role. The team is building a scalable database platform where infrastructure, deployments, and schema changes are treated as code. The focus is on eliminating manual processes through automation, standardization, and self-service capabilities.

What You'll Work On

  • Design, build, and operate large-scale SQL Server and Snowflake environments.
  • Automate database provisioning, patching, upgrades, and lifecycle management across fleets of database instances.
  • Build self-service tools that enable developers and engineering teams to manage database resources safely and efficiently.
  • Drive Infrastructure as Code and database automation initiatives using Terraform and Python.
  • Implement declarative, version-controlled database deployment practices using modern CI/CD workflows.
  • Partner with engineering teams to improve reliability, performance, observability, and scalability across critical systems.
  • Help shape the future of the firm's database platform as it expands into technologies such as PostgreSQL, Kubernetes, Iceberg, and other modern data infrastructure tools.

What We're Looking For

  • Deep SQL Server expertise, including:
    • Performance tuning
    • Query optimization
    • Indexing strategies
    • Always On Availability Groups
    • Replication
    • High availability and disaster recovery
    • Security and troubleshooting
  • Hands-on Snowflake experience.
  • Strong Python scripting skills for automation and tooling development.
  • Experience managing and automating large database environments rather than individual database instances.
  • Terraform and Infrastructure-as-Code experience.
  • AWS and/or Azure cloud experience.
  • Strong understanding of CI/CD and automated deployment processes.

Preferred Experience

  • Flyway, Liquibase, or Atlas.
  • Kubernetes and Linux containers.
  • PostgreSQL, Redis, ClickHouse, Iceberg, or Trino.
  • GitOps and modern observability tooling.
  • Technical leadership, mentorship, or team leadership experience.

Why This Role

This is an opportunity to move beyond traditional database administration and help build a modern, self-service database platform supporting a high-performance trading environment. The team values engineers who are passionate about automation, eager to learn new technologies, and excited to modernize how database infrastructure is built and operated.
