Chief Representative
We have a current opportunity for a Chief Representative to join a prominent Asian bank on a permanent basis. The position will be based in Guangzhou, China.
Job Responsibilities:
As the Chief Representative Banker, you will be the primary liaison between the bank's headquarters and key stakeholders in China. Your core responsibility is to lead and expand the bank's business development initiatives in the region, ensuring alignment with the bank's strategic objectives and regulatory framework.
Key responsibilities include:
Market Development & Strategy:
- Identify, evaluate, and pursue new business opportunities in China across corporate banking, trade finance, treasury, and investment banking.
- Develop and execute strategic plans to grow the bank's presence and client base in China, particularly among large corporates, financial institutions, and government-related entities.
- Monitor macroeconomic, regulatory, and industry trends to provide strategic insights and recommendations to headquarters.
Client Relationship Management:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, regulators, industry associations, and other stakeholders.
- Act as the primary point of contact for Chinese clients seeking cross-border banking services.
- Facilitate introductions and support relationship managers in originating and structuring deals.
Regulatory & Compliance Oversight:
- Ensure the representative office operates in full compliance with local laws and regulations, including PBOC, CBIRC, and SAFE requirements.
- Maintain effective communication with regulatory bodies and ensure timely reporting and filings.
Internal Coordination & Reporting:
- Coordinate with internal business units, including corporate banking, risk, legal, and compliance, to support deal execution and client servicing.
- Prepare regular reports and presentations for senior management on market developments, client activities, and business performance.
Brand & Network Building:
- Represent the bank at industry events, forums, and conferences to enhance visibility and reputation.
- Promote the bank's brand and capabilities through thought leadership and strategic partnerships.
Job Requirements:
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or related field; MBA or equivalent preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in corporate or investment banking, with at least 5 years in a senior client-facing or business development role in China.
- Prior experience in a representative office or cross-border banking environment is highly desirable.
Skills & Competencies:
- Deep understanding of the Chinese financial market, regulatory environment, and business culture.
- Strong network of corporate and institutional clients in China.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Fluent in Mandarin and English (spoken and written); additional Asian language is a plus.

- High level of integrity, professionalism, and cultural sensitivity.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.
