Chief Operations Officer | Quant Asset Management Firm

Our client is a high-performing, quant focused boutique asset management firm based in Hong Kong with a strong focus on China A-shares and Greater China investment strategies. With a team of approximately 25 professionals, the firm is known for its disciplined investment approach, entrepreneurial culture, and deep local market insights.

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Chief Operating Officer (COO) to oversee and optimize the firm's day-to-day operations. This is a critical leadership role, reporting directly to the CEO, and will play a key part in scaling the firm's infrastructure, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting investment and business development functions.

What does the role involve?

  • Lead and manage all non-investment functions including operations, compliance, finance, HR, IT, and vendor management.
  • Oversee operational workflows across trade execution, settlement, risk, and reporting.
  • Ensure full compliance with SFC regulations and other relevant regulatory bodies in Hong Kong and mainland China.
  • Drive operational efficiency and scalability through process improvement and technology adoption.
  • Collaborate with investment and distribution teams to support new product launches and market expansion.
  • Manage relationships with service providers including fund administrators, custodians, auditors, and legal counsel.
  • Support strategic initiatives including fundraising, cross-border structuring, and regional expansion.

What experience do you need?

  • 10+ years of experience in asset management or hedge fund operations
  • Strong understanding of China-focused investment products, cross-border fund structures, and regulatory frameworks (SFC, QFII/RQFII, WFOE, etc.).
  • Proven track record in building and managing lean, high-performing operational teams.
  • Fluent in Mandarin and English - essential for internal and external communication across Greater China.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree or professional qualifications (e.g., CPA, CFA) preferred.
