Overview:
My client is a leading property and casualty insurance carrier seeking an experienced and strategic Assistant Vice President (AVP), General Liability Underwriter to join their growing team. This is a high-impact role for a seasoned underwriting professional with deep expertise in primary casualty and a proven track record of leadership and team management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead underwriting strategy and execution for general liability within the primary casualty portfolio.
- Evaluate, price, and underwrite complex risks in accordance with company guidelines and risk appetite.
- Manage and mentor a team of underwriters, fostering professional development and ensuring high performance.
- Collaborate with actuarial, claims, legal, and distribution teams to drive profitable growth.
- Maintain strong broker and client relationships to support business development and retention.
- Monitor market trends and competitor activity to inform underwriting decisions and product development.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, regulatory requirements, and corporate policies.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 10 years of underwriting experience in general liability, with a strong focus on primary casualty.
- Prior management or team leadership experience is required.
- Deep knowledge of underwriting principles, risk assessment, and pricing methodologies.
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Ability to lead in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a strategic mindset.
- Bachelor's degree required; industry designations (e.g., CPCU, ARM) preferred.
