Position Summary - Underwriting Manager
The Underwriting Manager will oversee the underwriting and servicing of complex, multi‑line large‑deductible construction accounts across a defined territory. This role blends technical underwriting strength with strong relationship‑building and production skills.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing a portfolio of sophisticated construction accounts and guiding underwriting strategy
- Developing and maintaining strong relationships with brokers, agents, and insureds
- Assessing large‑scale and nuanced risks while structuring creative insurance solutions
- Representing the underwriting team in client meetings, presentations, and broader industry settings
- Collaborating with internal partners across actuarial, claims, legal, and risk disciplines to ensure cohesive account management
- Providing mentorship, support, and guidance to underwriters as needed
- Contributing to overall growth strategy and helping shape best practices within the group
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- Authorization to work in the U.S. without present or future sponsorship
- 10+ years of underwriting experience, ideally involving large‑deductible or national‑account construction business
- Background in a field‑production environment with demonstrated success driving new business
- Ability to work in a hybrid model, including weekly in‑office days at a designated regional location
- Strong analytical ability with experience evaluating complex risk profiles
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior leadership, coaching, or mentoring experience
- Strong negotiation abilities and existing agency relationships
- Experience presenting to clients, leading discussions, or representing underwriting teams externally
- Professional designations (e.g., CPCU) are beneficial
- Comfort using data, analytics, and business insights to inform underwriting decisions
