E&S Underwriter
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Excess & Surplus (E&S) Underwriter to join our Commercial Lines team at a leading P&C insurance carrier. The ideal candidate will have proven experience underwriting both new and renewal business across multiple lines, including Property, General Liability (GL), Workers Compensation, and Umbrella. This role requires a deep understanding of complex risks, strong broker relationships, and the ability to craft tailored coverage solutions in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Underwrite and price new and renewal E&S commercial lines business in accordance with company guidelines and risk appetite.
- Analyze risk characteristics, loss history, financials, and other underwriting data to determine acceptability and appropriate terms.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with wholesale brokers and other distribution partners.
- Negotiate terms and conditions to ensure profitability and competitiveness.
- Collaborate with internal teams including actuarial, claims, and legal to assess and manage risk.
- Monitor portfolio performance and contribute to strategic underwriting initiatives.
- Stay current on market trends, regulatory changes, and emerging risks in the E&S space.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of E&S underwriting experience in commercial lines (Property, GL, Workers Comp, Umbrella).
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills with a keen eye for detail.
- Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
- Proficiency in underwriting systems and tools.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, or related field (CPCU, AU, or other industry designations preferred).
