Overview

The Account Executive (AE) is a key client-facing leader responsible for managing a portfolio of employer group benefit clients. This role oversees strategic planning, vendor negotiations, financial analysis, renewal management, and day‑to‑day service delivery. The AE partners closely with Producers/Consultants and internal service teams to ensure exceptional client satisfaction and retention.


Key Responsibilities

Client Relationship Management

  • Serve as primary point of contact for client HR and executive teams.
  • Lead ongoing client communication, stewardship meetings, and strategic planning discussions.
  • Ensure a high‑touch, consultative experience that supports long‑term retention.

Strategic Planning & Consulting

  • Develop multi‑year benefits strategies aligned with client goals around cost, benefits philosophy, market competitiveness, and workforce needs.
  • Analyze plan design, claims experience, utilization trends, and financial performance.
  • Provide benchmarking, compliance updates, and industry insights.

Renewal & Financial Management

  • Manage the full renewal process, including rate negotiations with carriers, underwriting review, and marketing of plans.
  • Prepare financial exhibits and modeling for funding strategies (fully insured, level‑funded, or self‑funded).
  • Evaluate vendor proposals and make recommendations to clients.

Project & Service Delivery Oversight

  • Oversee implementation of new carriers, products, and plan changes.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (account management, analysts, compliance, communications).
  • Ensure timely delivery of open enrollment materials, employee communications, and compliance documentation.

Compliance & Governance

  • Provide guidance on federal and state regulations (ACA, ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, Section 125).
  • Review plan documents, SBCs, SPDs, and contracts for accuracy.
  • Work with compliance resources to address regulatory issues.

Vendor & Market Engagement

  • Maintain strong relationships with insurance carriers, TPAs, PBMs, and technology partners.
  • Stay informed about market trends, underwriting practices, and emerging solutions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • 5-10+ years of employee benefits experience within a brokerage or consulting environment.
  • Strong understanding of group health and welfare plans (medical, Rx, dental, vision, life/disability, voluntary benefits).
  • Proficiency in financial analysis, underwriting principles, and renewal management.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and client-relations skills.
  • Active Life & Health insurance license (or ability to obtain).
