An established life insurance organization is seeking an experienced Underwriting Managing Director to lead a team of underwriters within its Consumer Markets division. This is a fully remote leadership opportunity offering strong visibility, strategic influence, and long-term growth potential.
This role blends technical underwriting expertise with people leadership, playing a key part in evaluating complex life insurance risks and driving overall business performance. The Managing Director will oversee end-to-end underwriting decisions while developing talent and strengthening relationships across distribution partners.

Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and develop a team of underwriting professionals, including coaching and performance management
- Oversee full-cycle underwriting decisions, from initial case review through final approval
- Evaluate complex mortality risks, including medical history, treatment trends, and future risk indicators
- Review and assess additional underwriting requirements to support accurate risk selection
- Perform second-sign authority on high-value cases, as needed
- Ensure adherence to quality, productivity, and performance standards
- Contribute to strategic initiatives, including enhancements to underwriting tools and processes
Required Experience:
- 10+ years of life insurance underwriting experience with strong technical proficiency
- Prior leadership experience managing underwriting teams
- Advanced decision-making authority on large face amounts (typically $15M+)
- Strong communication skills with the ability to build relationships internally and externally
- Demonstrated critical thinking and sound judgment in complex case evaluations
- Ability to prioritize effectively and manage multiple responsibilities
