Step into a position where your credit expertise plays a pivotal role in shaping both the bank's risk posture and commercial momentum. Operating within the Second Line of Defence, you'll review sophisticated transactions, advise senior decision‑makers, and contribute to strengthening the credit risk framework across either Leveraged Finance or Financial Institutions portfolios.

This opportunity is well‑suited to credit professionals who enjoy analytical challenge, collaborative problem‑solving, and influencing high‑level decisions across the organisation.

Key responsibilities

  • Take ownership of detailed credit evaluations for leveraged borrowers or FI counterparties - reviewing financial strength, transaction structures, sector trends, and risk drivers.
  • Prepare robust credit papers, ratings assessments, and forward‑looking sector commentary.
  • Deliver clear, evidence‑backed recommendations on new lending proposals, renewals, and event‑driven requests.
  • Provide constructive challenge to first‑line submissions to ensure risk‑aligned, commercially sound outcomes.
  • Work closely with relationship teams, product partners, and senior approvers as a trusted credit specialist.
  • Present succinct credit viewpoints and strategic insights to senior stakeholders.
  • Partner with global and regional credit teams to ensure alignment and maintain consistent standards.
  • Assist with portfolio analytics, early‑warning identification, and calibration of risk appetite.
  • Monitor market, regulatory, and sector developments to anticipate evolving risks.
  • Contribute to internal initiatives and support junior colleagues through mentoring and knowledge‑sharing.

Key requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in credit risk within financial services.
  • Strong background in Leveraged Finance or Financial Institutions (banks, insurers, NBFIs).
  • Solid grasp of credit fundamentals, complex financing structures, and key documentation such as LMA templates.
  • Understanding of regulatory expectations around credit approvals and ongoing monitoring.
  • Excellent analytical and financial modelling capability, with high attention to detail.
  • Confident communicator with the ability to challenge thoughtfully and influence senior stakeholders.
