A leading Life Insurance firm is seeking an experienced and strategic tax professional to join their team as Assistant Director of Tax Accounting within the life insurance division. This role is ideal for someone with deep expertise in life insurance tax accounting, including statutory and GAAP reporting, and a passion for leading complex financial operations in a regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead tax accounting processes for life insurance operations in accordance with statutory and GAAP guidelines.
- Interpret and apply life insurance tax regulations to financial reporting and operational decisions.
- Oversee tax-related aspects of financial close, including journal entries, reconciliations, and disclosures.
- Collaborate with actuarial, finance, and legal teams to ensure compliance and optimize tax strategies.
- Support audits and regulatory examinations by preparing documentation and responding to inquiries.
- Monitor changes in tax laws and accounting standards, assessing their impact on the organization.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff and contribute to team development.
- Assist in the preparation of tax provisions and deferred tax calculations.
- Contribute to strategic initiatives including entity restructuring, system upgrades, and process improvements.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in insurance/reinsurance tax accounting, with a focus on life insurance.
- Strong understanding of statutory and GAAP accounting principles as they apply to life insurance.
- Proven ability to interpret and operationalize complex tax regulations and insurance contracts.
- Experience managing or mentoring staff in a corporate finance or tax environment.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with tax and financial reporting systems.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work cross-functionally and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
