Underwriting Manager
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Personal Lines Manager to lead the development, performance, and profitability of our Personal Lines portfolio. This individual will oversee underwriting operations, manage a team of underwriters, and play a key role in product development, rate and form filings, and carrier relationship management. The ideal candidate brings a strong background in direct homeowners business, regulatory compliance, and leadership within an MGA, carrier, or specialty insurance environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a team of Personal Lines underwriters, fostering a high-performance and collaborative culture.
- Manage the profitability, growth, and underwriting strategy of the Personal Lines portfolio, with a strong focus on Direct Homeowners insurance.
- Oversee and participate in rate, rule, and form filings with state insurance departments.
- Collaborate with actuarial, compliance, product, and executive leadership teams on product enhancements and market expansion initiatives.
- Monitor underwriting performance, loss trends, and market conditions to drive profitable growth.
- Ensure adherence to underwriting guidelines, regulatory requirements, and company standards.
- Maintain and strengthen relationships with carriers, regulatory bodies, and key business partners.
- Support strategic planning and execution of new products, programs, and distribution opportunities.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of Personal Lines underwriting experience, with significant experience in homeowners insurance.
- 2-5 years of leadership or management experience, including oversight of underwriting teams.
- Demonstrated experience with rate, rule, and form filings and interactions with state insurance regulators.
- Strong background in Direct Homeowners insurance programs.
- Experience within an MGA, insurance carrier, or specialty insurance organization preferred.
- Proven ability to manage profitability, portfolio performance, and underwriting strategy.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills.
- Bachelor's degree preferred; CPCU, AU, AINS, or similar insurance designations are a plus.
Preferred Background
- Experience launching or enhancing Personal Lines products.
- Knowledge of multi-state regulatory environments.
- Strong understanding of pricing, product management, and Personal Lines market trends.
