Legal & Compliance Manager / VP - Leading Global Alternative Investment Firm, Tokyo
Our client is a leading global alternative investment advisory firm with a strong presence across North America, Europe, and Asia. Due to continued growth in the region, they are looking to hire a Legal & Compliance Manager / VP to join their Tokyo office.
This is a unique opportunity to work closely with senior stakeholders across the business and take ownership of a broad range of legal and compliance matters in a highly international environment.
Responsibilities for this Legal & Compliance Manager / VP role
- Provide legal advice and support on commercial contracts, corporate matters, and regulatory issues.
- Review, draft, and negotiate a variety of agreements with investors, service providers, and business partners.
- Support regulatory compliance initiatives and ensure adherence to applicable financial regulations.
- Partner with business teams to identify and mitigate legal and compliance risks.
- Assist in developing and maintaining compliance policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Conduct compliance monitoring, training, and regulatory reporting activities.
- Work closely with global legal and compliance teams on cross-border projects and initiatives.
Requirements for this Legal & Compliance Manager / VP role
- Qualified lawyer (Japan, US, UK, or other major jurisdictions preferred) or equivalent legal background (e.g; paralegal).
- Professional business level Japanese and English communication skills.
- Experience gained within an investment management firm, alternative investment firm, financial institution, law firm, or other regulated financial services environment.
- Strong contract drafting, negotiation, and legal advisory experience.
- Knowledge of financial services regulations and compliance frameworks is highly desirable.
- Ability to work independently in a lean and fast-paced environment.
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to partner effectively across functions and seniority levels.
