FPGA Engineer
Role Overview
This position offers the opportunity to architect and deliver a complete FPGA solution for an established trading team. Although the firm has used FPGA technology for several years, this role focuses on building a new application from the ground up. The ideal candidate understands the interplay between hardware and software and is comfortable working across the full development lifecycle of high‑throughput, low‑latency FPGA systems.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement new FPGA applications, including synthesis, place and route, static timing analysis, and technical documentation
- Assess and benchmark emerging FPGA technologies and hardware platforms
- Develop creative approaches to working within hardware constraints
- Collaborate directly with software engineers and cross‑functional design teams
- Perform hands‑on debugging, validation, and hardware characterization in lab environments
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
- 3+ years of relevant industry experience (advanced degrees may count toward experience)
- Strong background in hardware engineering with a focus on FPGA development
- Ability to independently drive an FPGA project from requirements through production deployment
- Strong understanding of hardware limitations and the ability to quickly evaluate project feasibility
- Proficiency in RTL design (Verilog) with at least 2 years of hands‑on coding experience
- Experience with the full FPGA design flow, including synthesis, place & route, and timing analysis
- Knowledge of SoC architectures, memory subsystems, processor interfaces, networking, and related interconnects
- Familiarity with TCP/IP
- Hands‑on experience with FPGA tools from major vendors such as Xilinx or Intel/Altera
- Experience with functional verification methodologies (e.g., SystemVerilog) is a plus
- Strong research, investigation, and technical analysis skills
