A well-established and financially strong U.S.-based insurance organization is seeking an experienced E&S Underwriting Manager to lead a high-performing team within the Excess & Surplus lines segment. This is a strategic leadership role focused on underwriting excellence, agency relationship management, and driving profitable growth across a defined territory.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team of underwriters, ensuring high-quality underwriting decisions and adherence to company guidelines.
- Oversee workflow distribution, training, and performance management to meet production and service standards.
- Collaborate with relationship managers to support agency premium commitments and strategic initiatives.
- Monitor profitability and production metrics, providing regular reports and insights to senior leadership.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with General Agents and agency partners through regular communication and in-person visits (approximately 25% travel).
- Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and service quality.
- Participate in audits, pricing reviews, and strategic planning meetings.
- Provide technical guidance to underwriters and act as a liaison with other departments.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of underwriting experience in commercial lines, with a strong background in E&S or specialty lines.
- 3+ years of experience in related areas such as rating, inspections, or claims preferred.
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience strongly preferred.
- Strong analytical, communication, and decision-making skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel as needed.
