Location: New York, NY (Hybrid)

A global financial institution is seeking a Director, ESG Controller to join its Sustainability Office. This role offers a unique opportunity to help shape how the organization approaches ESG reporting and regulatory disclosures, with a strong focus on data integrity, governance, and collaboration across teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Leading the development of ESG disclosures to meet both regulatory and internal standards, ensuring everything is accurate, well-documented, and aligned with enterprise policies.
  • Partnering with teams in finance, risk, compliance, and audit to build a strong foundation for ESG reporting and oversight.
  • Managing the documentation and control processes that support ESG disclosures, keeping everything organized and audit-ready.
  • Driving the sustainability team's data strategy-setting standards for how ESG data is collected, validated, and integrated across systems.
  • Reviewing disclosures across different business units to ensure consistency, clarity, and alignment with stakeholder expectations and regulatory requirements.
  • Overseeing how financed emissions are measured and reported, and ensuring the data meets regulatory standards and is ready for internal and external review.
  • Collaborating with operational sustainability teams to support emissions tracking and control frameworks.
  • Staying informed on emerging ESG frameworks and best practices to help the institution continuously improve its sustainability reporting.

Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree is required; an MBA or other advanced degree is a plus.
  • At least 10 years of experience in financial services, ideally with a background in accounting, audit, controls, or ESG/sustainability. Experience in a controllership role is especially valuable.

  • Strong analytical skills and comfort working with large datasets, including third-party platforms like Workiva and S&P.
  • Solid understanding of carbon emissions measurement across Scope 1, 2, and 3, and familiarity with frameworks like PCAF and the GHG Protocol.
  • Experience building and implementing data standards and processes to meet regulatory and reporting needs.
  • Familiarity with ESG disclosure frameworks such as TCFD (Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures) and ISSB (International Sustainability Standards Board) is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across teams and guide stakeholders through complex ESG topics.
