A client of Selby Jennings is looking to bring on a Claims Consultant to its team. This is a highly visible role and will report directly into the VP of Claims.

A prominent insurance provider recognized for its strong claims expertise and service-driven culture is currently looking for a Claims Consultant to join its team. The company is known for managing specialized and high-stakes risks across various commercial lines. With a hybrid work model based in Stockton, CA, this role offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative setting while handling some of the most complex and high-exposure liability claims in the industry.
Key Responsibilities
In this position, the Claims Consultant will be responsible for managing a diverse portfolio of complex claims, primarily involving General Liability, and Excess Commercial Auto. The role involves in-depth claim investigations, analyzing legal and medical documentation, and developing effective resolution strategies.
Additional responsibilities include:
Conducting detailed evaluations of coverage and potential exposure, while forming strategic approaches to claim resolution.
Reviewing legal filings, assessing damages, and engaging in settlement negotiations to reach timely and cost-efficient outcomes.
Collaborating with external partners such as legal counsel and investigators to ensure that all claim activities support overall strategy and compliance.
Providing clear guidance and recommendations on coverage interpretation, legal strategy, and case valuations.
Maintaining comprehensive and accurate records within the internal claims system to support transparency and regulatory compliance.
Ensuring all activities adhere to current state regulations and licensing standards, including fulfilling ongoing education requirements.
Requirements & Experience
The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in complex liability claims along with the judgment and technical knowledge needed to manage challenging cases.
Qualifications include:
A Bachelor's degree is required; a Juris Doctor (JD) is preferred.
At least five years of hands-on experience managing general liability or excess coverage claims, ideally those with higher complexity or exposure.
Strong analytical thinking and the ability to make sound, strategic decisions based on legal and factual analysis.
Solid understanding of commercial insurance principles and legal concepts; professional designations such as AINS or CPCU are beneficial but not mandatory.
Proficiency in standard office software and claims management platforms.
Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex information clearly.
A proactive and organized approach, with the ability to work independently while also contributing to team success.
