Business Manager
Position: Business Manager - Commodities/Energy
A prop trading firm is looking for a seasoned and forward-thinking Business Manager to support the Commodities/Energy Business Unit. This role is instrumental in driving new trading initiatives, managing competing priorities, and fostering strong partnerships across the Front Office and support functions. The ideal candidate will bring sharp critical thinking, a proactive mindset, and a strong background in energy trading and operations. They will challenge conventional approaches, communicate complex ideas with clarity, and lead projects with precision and agility.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Collaboration with Front Office:
- Partner closely with Front Office COOs and trading teams to identify and pursue new market opportunities.
- Evaluate the impact and requirements of entering new markets and manage the full implementation lifecycle.
- Ensure clear and timely communication of initiatives to all relevant stakeholders.
- Prepare and deliver quarterly business reports.
Project Management for Trading Initiatives:
- Collect and analyze detailed requirements for new business ventures.
- Secure approvals from the New Business Working Group and coordinate with shared services teams.
- Develop and execute implementation plans, ensuring transparency and timely delivery.
- Act as a liaison between internal and external stakeholders to streamline processes.
- Examples of initiatives include onboarding new traders, launching new strategies or products, integrating with exchanges, and working with Prime Brokers or FCMs.
Process Optimization:
- Identify opportunities to enhance and streamline operational processes across the business unit.
Required Skills & Experience
- 5+ years of experience in a trading or capital markets environment, preferably within Commodities/Energy.
- Demonstrated success in leading complex, cross-functional initiatives.
- Experience working with global teams across regions such as Europe, Asia, and the U.S.
- Strong understanding of regulatory, tax, risk, treasury, capital, and legal considerations in new business development.
- Proven ability to thrive in fast-paced environments with shifting priorities.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong relationship-building skills with diverse stakeholders.
- High attention to detail and a commitment to follow-through.
- Quick learner with the ability to grasp new concepts and technologies.
- Action-oriented with a strong sense of urgency.
