About the Role
Our client, a leading provider of commercial insurance solutions, is seeking a Senior Middle Market Underwriter to join their South Carolina team. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional with strong analytical skills and a deep understanding of multi-line commercial underwriting. The successful candidate will manage a portfolio of middle market accounts, focusing on industries such as construction, light manufacturing, wholesale, distribution, and business services.
Key Responsibilities
- Underwrite new and renewal middle market commercial business, including property, general liability, auto, workers compensation, and umbrella policies.
- Evaluate risk acceptability and pricing within delegated authority levels and company guidelines.
- Maintain a profitable book of business aligned with strategic objectives.
- Collaborate with agents and Territory Managers to strengthen agency relationships and drive growth.
- Serve as a mentor and technical resource to junior underwriters.
- Participate in agency planning, review processes, and key account evaluations.
- Travel to agency locations to support marketing efforts and conduct training sessions.
- Ensure compliance with state regulations and internal underwriting standards.
- Analyze exposures, hazards, and controls to make informed underwriting decisions.
- Recommend exceptions and creative solutions to retain quality business.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5-10 years of commercial lines underwriting experience.
- Strong knowledge of multi-line products including CGL, Property, BOP, Auto, Crime, Inland Marine, Umbrella, and Workers Compensation.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Professional designations such as CPCU, ARM, or AU preferred.
- Excellent negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong organizational and communication abilities.
- Proficiency in underwriting systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to travel as needed within the South Carolina territory.
