MGA Program leader
A fast-growing, privately backed Managing General Agent (MGA) is seeking an elite Program Leader to develop, launch, and scale a new specialty P&C program. The organization maintains a low public profile, values confidentiality, and provides leaders with the authority and infrastructure required to operate their program as an independent business unit-without the constraints of legacy carriers or large corporate environments.
This is a rare opportunity for a seasoned industry expert to bring a program vision to life inside a well-supported, entrepreneurial MGA platform.
Role Overview
The Program Leader will assume full ownership of a new program from concept to market launch to long-term P&L stewardship. Ideal candidates bring deep technical underwriting expertise, extensive market relationships, and a proven history of successfully building or expanding specialty P&C programs.
Key Responsibilities
Program Strategy & Development
- Design and launch a specialty P&C program from the ground up.
- Define underwriting guidelines, product structure, rating methodologies, and risk appetite.
- Build financial models, market analyses, and strategic growth plans.
Carrier & Reinsurance Partner Management
- Lead discussions with carrier, reinsurance, and capacity providers to secure program support.
- Maintain strong relationships and regularly communicate performance metrics, portfolio trends, and strategic updates.
Underwriting Leadership
- Serve as the technical authority for underwriting decisions.
- Oversee risk selection, pricing, portfolio diversification, and performance management.
- Establish program-specific underwriting standards, workflows, and SOPs.
Distribution & Market Engagement
- Develop and manage a distribution strategy across brokers, agents, wholesalers, and other channels.
- Expand relationships within the producer community to drive high-quality submissions.
- Represent the program at industry events and specialty market forums.
Operational Execution & Oversight
- Partner with internal teams across operations, IT, compliance, claims, actuarial, and data analytics to ensure successful program implementation.
- Oversee program reporting, regulatory adherence, and performance optimization.
- Manage budgeting, scaling, staff needs, and long-term P&L health.
Qualifications
- 15+ years of progressive experience in P&C program underwriting, program management, or related specialty lines.
- Demonstrated track record of launching or significantly growing a specialty program at an MGA, carrier, or program administrator.
- Deep expertise in underwriting, product development, and portfolio management.
- Well-established relationships with carrier partners, reinsurers, and key distribution channels.
- High-comfort operating in an entrepreneurial environment with significant autonomy.
- Strong analytical, leadership, communication, and strategic planning skills.
What the Organization Offers
- High autonomy and true ownership of a program built around your expertise.
- Access to strong carrier relationships, underwriting authority, and operational infrastructure.
