Position Summary:
The Vice President of Underwriting & Reinsurance will lead the strategic direction and execution of our client's underwriting and risk management functions. This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for shaping underwriting philosophy, managing reinsurance relationships, and driving innovation across the insurance value chain.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and Inspire: Manage and mentor a high-performing underwriting team, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Strategic Risk Assessment: Oversee the evaluation of complex commercial property risks, ensuring pricing and coverage decisions align with growth and profitability goals.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Sales, Operations, and Product teams to align underwriting strategies with business objectives and customer needs.
- Reinsurance Oversight: Develop and manage reinsurance strategies and relationships to optimize capital efficiency and risk transfer.
- Innovation & Optimization: Design and implement scalable underwriting workflows, tools, and policies that enhance efficiency and competitive advantage.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements and internal standards, maintaining audit-ready documentation and processes.
- Market Intelligence: Stay ahead of industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging risks to inform underwriting strategy and product development.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience in commercial P&C insurance, with at least 7 years in property underwriting.
- Prior experience with surplus lines and reinsurance strategy is highly preferred.
- Deep knowledge of risk assessment methodologies, pricing models, and coverage structures.
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to inspire and develop high-performing teams.
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking capabilities.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills.
- Familiarity with state-by-state regulatory environments and licensing processes.
- Preference for candidates able to work in-person or hybrid from our client's downtown Austin office.
