Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Middle Market Senior Underwriter to join our dynamic underwriting team. This role is responsible for evaluating, selecting, and pricing complex commercial accounts across multiple lines of business. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of underwriting principles, strong analytical skills, and the ability to build and maintain broker relationships while driving profitable growth.
Key Responsibilities
Risk Assessment & Underwriting:
- Analyze and evaluate submissions for middle market accounts across all P&C lines (e.g., property, casualty, auto, umbrella, workers' compensation).
- Apply sound judgment to determine risk acceptability and pricing in accordance with company guidelines.
Portfolio Management:
- Maintain a profitable book of business by balancing growth and risk selection.
- Monitor performance metrics and adjust strategies as needed.
Broker Relationship Management:
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers and agents to drive new business opportunities.
- Provide responsive, solution-oriented service to distribution partners.
Collaboration & Leadership:
- Partner with internal teams (claims, loss control, actuarial) to deliver comprehensive solutions.
- Mentor junior underwriters and contribute to team development.
Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of commercial underwriting experience, preferably in middle market accounts.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of all P&C lines and multi-line underwriting strategies.
- Skills:
- Excellent analytical and decision-making abilities.
- Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills.
- Proficiency with underwriting systems and tools.
- Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent industry experience; CPCU or other professional designation preferred.
