Equity Research Analyst (Alternative Data Focus)
A leading investment firm is looking to hire a junior Data Analyst to support its growing investment team, with a focus on alternative data. This hire will work directly with investors to help integrate data-driven insights into the research process, contributing to a more scalable and differentiated approach to idea generation.
The role is designed for someone coming from a sell-side or buy-side equity research background who is interested in developing a more data-focused toolkit. The firm is continuing to build out its capabilities and is looking to add a second analyst to complement the existing team.
Responsibilities
- Support the sourcing, evaluation, and analysis of alternative data sets used in the investment process
- Work closely with analysts to integrate data into company research, thematic work, and idea generation
- Manipulate and analyze datasets to identify trends, anomalies, and actionable insights
- Assist in building simple tools, dashboards, and frameworks to make data more accessible to the investment team
- Help assess the quality and usefulness of new data vendors and datasets
- Contribute to making data usage more systematic across the team
Candidate Profile
- 2-5 years of experience in sell-side or buy-side equity research
- Demonstrated interest in incorporating data into the investment process
- Some exposure to coding / data tools (Python, SQL, Excel, etc.) but not required to be a pure programmer
- Ability to work with datasets and "figure things out" independently without a heavy technical background
- Strong analytical mindset and intellectual curiosity
- Naturally curious about how alternative data can enhance traditional research
