YOUR ROLE:

The role would be a key part of a new initiative to physically establish our team in the China market. The new hire will represent the firm in the country, with a primary role identifying valuable datasets that will prove additive to our investment strategies.

The position will require a significant degree of independence and self-sufficiency, and a candidate with substantial relevant experience will be preferred to a candidate looking to change their profession.

The Data Sourcing VP (China) role reports to the Head of Data Sourcing and will be based in Shanghai.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Your initiatives as Data Sourcing VP:

  • You will own the discovery of new datasets in China, and will contribute to their unearthing across the region;
  • You will work within the unique Chinese legal and regulatory environment to organize data acquisition and transformation;
  • You will use your own initiative to develop your network, travelling to regional events and meetings where appropriate;
  • You will maintain relationships with large existing providers in order to remain fully up to date with their latest products, while also sifting through the vast quantity of smaller providers in search of potential value.

YOUR SKILLS:

  • The ideal candidate will already have experience sourcing datasets for a large western hedge fund, ideally quantitative;
  • You are a motivated individual with excellent communication skills, who can drill down to the most important information in a presented offering, while keeping an eye on the bigger picture;
  • You will have fluency in both English and Mandarin;
  • You will have a deep understanding of both financial markets and data, such that you are able to consider potential investing use cases for a dataset, and the attributes needed for a dataset to be usable;
  • Your familiarity with the alternative data space is a large plus.
