Accounting Policy & Controls Leader - Insurance
Requirements
- Lead the organization's accounting policy function across multiple regulatory and reporting frameworks, including economic balance sheet methodologies, US GAAP, and statutory accounting.
- Oversee the evaluation, interpretation, and implementation of new and emerging accounting standards.
- Maintain comprehensive accounting policies covering a broad range of insurance liabilities and investment asset classes.
- Support enterprise-level financial reporting processes and monitor changes in relevant regulatory requirements.
- Partner with investment teams and external advisors to develop accounting policies for new asset classes and complex transactions.
- Review and update existing policies to ensure continued relevance as the business evolves.
- Oversee implementation of new accounting standards and policy changes across the business.
- Provide accounting and capital structure analysis for corporate development activities, including acquisitions and reinsurance transactions.
- Lead and develop a team of accounting policy professionals, ensuring high-quality analysis, communication, and execution.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or graduate degree in Accounting or Finance; US CPA or equivalent accounting credential required.
- At least 10 years of (re)insurance accounting experience, including 5+ years in accounting policy within a life insurance or reinsurance environment.
- Experience with legal entity acquisitions, block reinsurance transactions, and complex insurance products such as variable annuities, fixed indexed annuities, payout annuities, and universal life.
- Strong knowledge of accounting for various investment types, including fixed income, alternatives, hybrid assets, and loan portfolios.
- Broad technical accounting expertise and experience navigating financial processes and M&A-related accounting considerations.
- Demonstrated success building and managing finance or accounting processes with a focus on accuracy and timely delivery.
- Deep expertise in at least one major reporting framework (economic balance sheet, US GAAP, or statutory accounting).
- Highly detail-oriented, analytical, and capable of hands-on execution.
- Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong leadership abilities with a track record of independent decision-making and effective collaboration.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to analyze complex issues and provide practical solutions.
